2nd book in the Dreamland Billionaires Series

7th DNF of 2022

Declan
I’m destined to become the next CEO of my family’s media empire.
The only problem? My grandfather’s inheritance clause.
Fulfilling his dying wish of getting married and having an heir seemed impossible until my assistant volunteers for the job.
Our marriage was supposed to be the perfect solution to my biggest problem.
But the more we act in love for the public, the more unsure I feel about our contract.
Caring about Iris was never part of the deal.
Especially not when breaking her heart is inevitable.

Iris
My plan to marry Declan was simple in theory.
Move in together. Throw a wedding. Have a baby.
We set rules to prevent any kind of issues.
Ones that were never meant to be broken, no matter how much Declan tempts me.
But what happens when our fake relationship bleeds into our real one?
Falling in love was never an option.
At least not for me.

“Of course, he fucked this up. His latest software update didn’t include a manual on how to be a decent human being.” Cal

“Family therapy is on Thursday nights. Don’t be late!” Cal

“You must have a death wish. There’s no explanation for YOUR irrational behavior.” I laugh. “Obviously, or else I would have never agreed to marry you.” Declan and Iris

Review

Am I disappointed? Yes, very much! When I read the first book, I wanted to have this couple and see their story, I had high expectations for them, but this book didn’t match what I wanted.

This story is a mix of all the romance tropes you can think of. Miscommunication, check; fake dating, check; grumpy and sunshine, check; fake marriage, check; boss and secretary, check; daddy issues, check. But, it was, for me, a little too much, and even if I can pass on some of them, the others I can’t, as I have a tendency to find them a little boring.

The characters weren’t it for me. I didn’t really imagine them like that, and I felt their alchemy a little strange, like coming out of nowhere and at the same time here for a long time, waiting for their love to bloom. As a result, I was a little bored by them as I didn’t care for them. The only moments I liked were the one with Cal and Iris and when she interacted with Declan’s dad. Those were so fun to read; sadly, those scenes weren’t often there.

Also, I had a little feeling of déjà vu with this one. Declan and his brother are a little alike, and I preferred seeing the relationship start from scratch than this one.

I still want to read the last book as it’s about Cal, and I liked his character in both of the books; I just need to control my hopes for it.

Liz.
