Second book in the Inheritance Games series

74th book of 2022
The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions – including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.
As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture – by any means necessary.

Review
This book is strange as I binged-reading it, but at the same time, I’m rolling my eyes for a good part of it.
You have a ton of clues and new puzzles that lead you astray, as every new plot twist will confirm only a tiny part of your hypothesis or nullify them. You feel that only the author knows where everything is going, which can be frustrating. The only thing is that I sometimes felt like rereading the first book, especially at the beginning. Also, there are, again, threats which started to be a little repetitive, and even if we have the reason behind them, I was a little bored by them. Like, okay, let’s move on; it feels like she can’t move a finger without being targeted.
I feel that the family is immense, and I’m starting to be lost as they question who Avery’s father is, but also as we start to know more about the brothers’ fathers. Big news: I still don’t care about the romance, and sadly it’s more present in this one than in the previous one.
Lastly, I’m not okay with the ending, as it feels like the end of the series. Yet, I think that I didn’t have everything; I felt let down by this ending. I have the question of what will happen in the last book and if I miss something in the book. In the end, I still don’t know why Tobias Senior left his legacy to Avery; if it’s just to prove certain things and bind someone to come back, I find it a little weak as a reason.
I will still read the last book of the series as it’s easy to dive into and to read.
Liz.
