bookoplathon | September 2022

Hello everyone,

This is the more extended version of the Bookoplathon hosted by the booktuber Becca & The Books (her youtube channel). It lasts for a whole month of September, and the rules differ from the 48h ones.

The concept of the readathon

For this readathon, you have a specific board of Bookoplathon with 22 prompts spaces, four themed spaces, three chances, and three community shelf spaces. You also have eight areas which is a more random way of choosing a book.

To play, you need two dice of six and an object to move on the board.

You have two ways of playing it:

  • Play as you go, which means you roll the dice, choose a book, finish it and then roll the dice.
  • Play at once, meaning that at the beginning of the month, you roll the dice x times and prepare your TBR based on the rolls in advance.

You don’t have many rules except for re-roll if you have a double. The other one is to have fun!

The prompts

Here are the board of the Bookoplathon 2022 edition. As you can see, the board is very adaptable to your reading taste and the unread books you have on your bookshelves. It’s so much easier to have something like that.

The ones I circled are the rolls and the space I felt on. I made six rolls and only had one double, which made me have seven rolls in the end. This board was kinder than others, but the fifth roll had to change everything.

The books

I made a graphic with all the rolls, the prompts and the book. We can see that we are in autumn as I mostly choose books that are in a fall colour scheme or black, white and gold.

My experience

This readathon follows the Magical Orilium: Autumn Equinox (here), which was also a month-long one. I think that it was maybe a little too much for me. I felt exhausted by this one, and I didn’t have the feeling of participating in it. I had the feeling of reading too slowly and that I won’t have time to play with the board.

Also, one thing that didn’t help was the DNF. I did it for two books. I replaced the first one, but not the second, as I was starting to be stressed. Moreover, I knew I would fall into this space. I needed to read a big book, but I rolled it on the 23rd, which was too late, and I knew that I wouldn’t finish it in time; I made peace with it but still.

I don’t know if this readathon will be the last of the year, but if yes, I’m happy with how I’ve done even if I don’t feel I have done anything. And you, have you already participated in one readathon? Or do you want to do it? If yes, which one?

If you have any experience with this kind of readathon, don’t hesitate to share it in the comment.

Bye, bye

Liz.
