Review
I hesitated a lot before buying this book due to my fear of not being as invested in this one as in The Guest List. Especially as they have quite the same trope: the main character secluded somewhere with a murder.
However, I was hooked from the start. As we follow different characters, you have a better presentation of them, which help you to dive into their psychology. Mimi was the most interesting for me; you understand that she will be the most complex character from the start, which makes her interesting.
In this story, you can’t trust the inhabitants of those apartments. You feel that something terrible will happen. Nevertheless, you have a certain predictability due to the story’s construction (or maybe I read this genre too much, and my brain can solve it?). Still, it’s not a big problem as you also have a ton of other revelations that are impossible to find. I was so surprised by some that I didn’t want to believe them initially.
The only problem I had while reading this book was the main character’s ability to want to kiss people that she had known for less than a week. It comes a little from nowhere, which pulled me off the story every time it happened and made me roll my eyes.
I think that Lucy Foley will be a go-to author for quick, easy and immersive mysteries.
Liz.
