59th book of 2022
Among the towering red cliffs of Petra, like some monstrous swollen Buddha, sat the corpse of Mrs Boynton. A tiny puncture mark on her wrist was the only sign of the fatal injection that had killed her.
With only 24 hours available to solve the mystery, Hercule Poirot recalled a chance remark he’d overheard back in Jerusalem: ‘You see, don’t you, that she’s got to be killed?’ Mrs Boynton was, indeed, the most detestable woman he’d ever met.

So, I was not fond of this one very much. The first sign that it wouldn’t be one I liked was the pace at which I read it. I read it in less than four hours, and I usually need to read it with the book and the audiobook, but this time, I only could read it in physical format.
Other than that, I didn’t particularly appreciate how the story was told. I found it rushed and convenient from the beginning to the end. In this book, Hercule Poirot only has 24 hours to find the murderer, so it needs to be quick, but it’s too fast here.
In the whole book, the story wants to make you think that someone did it and it’s so forced on you that it starts to be more annoying than helpful. Also, the ending is quite brutal and predictable from the beginning, but not in the way I thought it would be.
(Please be prepared as a scene is quite revolting toward the end.)
Liz.
