It’s the opportunity of a lifetime:

Feyi is about to be given the chance to escape the City’s blistering heat for a dream island holiday: poolside cocktails, beach sunsets, and elaborate meals. And as the sun goes down on her old life our heroine also might just be ready to open her heart to someone new.

⭐️The only problem is, she’s falling for the one man she absolutely can’t have.

Review

First, the hardcover of this book is stunning, especially the multicoloured spine. It just screams summer, and I think it’s the best period to read it.

There is one element I didn’t think I would wait for each time; it’s the food. As Alim Blake is a chef, you have a ton of descriptions of the meals and drinks. Those were so well-done that it was like sometimes I was smelling it.

In this book, we follow only one pov, Feyi’s. I’m not used to reading character-driven romance, but I like it. Her evolution is great to see, like the acceptance she finally feels and how she is more inclined to continue her life without Joshua, her husband, who died in a car crash five years earlier. The ending was open, letting the reader imagine this woman’s future.

However, there were some elements that I didn’t really understand. First, how Nasir’s personality wholly changed toward the end. The change is too quick, and even if Feyi knew something was off with him, we don’t have any sign that it will turn like it (also, she didn’t promise you anything.)
The second one is Nasir’s sister’s purpose. I don’t think she adds anything to the story as she doesn’t even live in her father’s house, which means we see her twice quickly. Then, suddenly, from nowhere, she takes a more prominent place at the end.

This book is a good mix between a contemporary and a romance.

Liz.
