August Olympus TBR

As July was better than June, I chose to read five books. I hope I will stay in the same mood as in July. However, I may change my entire TBR as I have one of my most anticipated books published at the beginning of August, AND it’s my birthday month, so I’m sure to have some books as birthday presents. So I want to go to London for one day and use that time to buy some books.

Lastly, I have two readathons this month: the second part of the Orilium with the Autumn Equinox by Book Roast (channel) and, for the first time ever, the Polarthon: the fishing tourney by Jaderaereads (channel.) I already read the book for August of the Cliterature Book Club (The Fine Print by Lauren Asher) in July, so I’m safe on that side (at least my TBR is but not my purse as I need to buy book two now.)

Let’s start with my Olympus TBR!

OLYMPUS TBR

Prompts for August

The rolls

Roll 1 (9)

God: Apollo

Prompt: Read a book with gold element

Pick: The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (publisher: Jo Fletcher)

Why: There is one little element on the cover with gold colour. It’s the brooch in her hair.

Roll 2 (11)

God: Hermes

Prompt: Read a book with a journey

Pick: Appointment with Death by Agatha Christie (publisher: HarperCollin Publishing)

Why: In this book, we follow Hercule Poirot in Petra, and like always, a murder happens.

Roll 3 (15)

God: Hades

Prompt: Read a book with a hidden cover

Pick: The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary (publisher: Quercus)

Why: It can totally work for the previous prompt, but it has a dust jacket, so a hidden cover.

Roll 4 (2)

Goddess: Hera

Prompt: Read a debut novel

Pick: The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow (publisher: Redhook)

Why: This book is the first book written by this author. I have had it for approximately a year and never found the right time to read it, but now I think it’s the time!

Roll 5 (10)

Goddess: Artemis

Prompt: Read a book with a moon element

Pick: Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson (publisher: Penguin Books)

Why: For me, a book about a coven is the best book to find a moon element.

Those are the five books I will read for August, equaling the small amount of 1,752 pages. However, I will be participating in two readathons, so I have some more pages to add.

READATHON

As I said, August is the second part of the Orilium readathon: Autumn Equinox. In April, I decided to pursue the path of Story weaver, so as I pass the Spring Equinox, I now need to take all the exams of this Equinox.

For those exams, we have three levels in each subject: Ordinary (O), Qualified (Q) and Distinguished (D). For the path we choose, we need to take more or fewer tests following the level asked to pass the exam.

I have six exams in three subjects: Incription, Lore, and Psionics & Divination.

  • For Inscription, I need to take an ordinary Glyph: Recollection test. I need to read a childhood favourite. I don’t remember which book was one of mine (and I don’t want to read a picture book), so I decided to go for The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as it’s a world I dive into at a really young age.
  • For Lore, I need to pass all the exam levels, so for the ordinary, I need to read a book that has the same colours as my country’s flag; for this one, I choose The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary. Then, I choose The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, a story featuring a betrayal for the qualified test. Lastly, to pass the distinguished test, I need to read a book with a desert setting; for this, I choose Appointment with Death by Agatha Christie.
  • For Psionics & Divination, I need to take two levels of test. First, I just need to read a story about time travel to pass the ordinary test. The only problem is that I don’t have any book corresponding to this prompt, so I change for dimensional travel with The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow. Then for the qualified test, I need to read a book with the same word as the previous book. Sadly, and again, I don’t have a book that corresponds to it, so I choose to see it later and do not have a specific one yet.

Also, there is the Polarthon: The Fishing Tourney, where you just need to read, and every 100 pages read, you have a fish. I think it’s the easiest readathon I have ever participated in.

As I only add one book to complete the Orilium readathon, I only need to add 225 pages which means that if I read all the books I chose in August, I will read 1,977 pages. I don’t know if it’s too many or not, like a month ago I wasn’t well at all and I had less to read than that, and I couldn’t read them. Now, I have a lot to read; let’s stay positive and see it as a challenge.

Don’t hesitate to share the books that you want to read this month or give your thoughts about these books if you have already read them.

Liz.
