bookoplathon | May 2022

Hello everyone,

Like last year, I took the challenge to read a maximum of books in 48 hours during the Bookoplathon. This readathon is hosted by the booktuber Becca & The Books (her youtube channel), and it was the third weekend of May (21st – 22nd).

The concept of the readathon

The rules are easy for the one who doesn’t know that readathon. You have 48 hours to read books that fit the prompts (you can double up) that are chosen on two different Bookopoly boards (her TBR game.) However, there is a catch, and it’s that you start the readathon with only 2 prompts out of 8. They come by two, and each pair is revealed every 12 hours, so you cannot prepare a specific TBR for this readathon.

Like last year the whole 48 hours were live-streamed, each live last 4 hours and hosted by different booktubers with guests.

The prompts

Like last year, the Bookopoly boards were different from each other, so you have some difficulties that are always welcome in those readathons. One of them was general, and the other a lot more detailed. Here is the list of the eight prompts:

  • Small book (<300 pages)
  • Gods
  • E-book/Audiobook
  • Colour in the title
  • Young adult
  • Spooky vibes
  • Water*
  • Feed scroll**

* A book with water on the cover, water colours or water related items on the cover (seachells, …)

** Scroll through a social media and the first book you see and you have is the one you need to read

The books

This year my aim was to read one book for one prompt. I almost did it, but the last prompt, “Feed scroll”, gave me some difficulty as I couldn’t find a book; I saw only (cat) reels on Instagram and had already read all the books on Goodreads. Also, the lack of time didn’t help, so I skipped this one.
The second reason for missing my goal is that I used one book for two prompts, as I didn’t have enough time to read two different books to complete those two separate prompts.

Here is the list of the books I read with the prompt correspondent:

  • The Tea Dragon Tapestry by Kay O’Neill (Small book)
  • Galatea: a Short Story by Madeline Miller (Gods)
  • The Tea Dragon Festival by Kay O’Neill (E-Book/Audiobook)
  • Before the Coffee Gets Cold: Tales From the Café by Toshigazu Kawaguchi (Colour in the title)
  • Halloween by Carly Spade (Spooky vibes)
  • I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey Mcquiston (Young Adult)
  • I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey Mcquiston (Water)

My experience

Honestly, it was challenging this year as I had a visit for my art history course on Saturday. It nearly took the whole day, so I really started to be in a readathon mood at 4pm, which is late.

Also, as I wasn’t really there on Saturday, I wasn’t really following the different lives that were available during that weekend which is sad as it’s always a pleasure to follow them and really feel like being part of the reading community.

I read a total of 899 pages, but if I didn’t have the visit on Saturday, I’m sure I would have read at least one more book.

Overall, I’m happy with the outcome of this readathon as I read two more books than last year. Still, I’m a little frustrated as I feel like I wasn’t participating at 100%.

I cannot wait to do it again; I like doing those readathons as you surpass yourself. And you, have you already participate in one readathon? Or do you want to do it? Which one?

If you have any experience with this kind of readathon, don’t hesitate to share it in the comment.

Bye, bye

Liz.
