my reading summary: April 2022

This month, I had two readathons which helped me to be motivated all the month. The good thing was that my Olympus TBR was the most effective, as I could use all of the books to complete the various prompts to fulfil those readathons. However, I had a tough week in the month, and the book I needed to read didn’t help at all. I lost so much time trying to convince myself to finish it, so I decided to DNFed it. This thing is always the best idea!

Let’s start with the stats!

Statistics

Like last month, I finished with eight books read, including a DNF, and I’m still currently reading one. I also finished one book that I started last month. That means that I read 2,349 pages with an average of 78 pages per day. I spent 21 days reading for a total of 33h10min, and I also listened to an audiobook for 3h8min. The average rating for this month is 3.60 out of 5.

As I had a lot of readathons, I read a lot of different genres and even went outside of my comfort zone. I read most of my books in physical format; I used mixed media for the one I DNFed and an e-book for the arc. This month, I read a mix of adult and young adult books; there is only one new adult. I discovered four new authors and read six books from authors I had already read.

I still don’t have any bonus card.

Here is the book I read during April with their prompts (if there is one). If you want to read a book’s review, you just need to click on the title.

Books

OLYMPUS TBR

A Botanist’s Guide to Parties and Poisons by Kate Khavari (Crooked Lane Books)

(Review available on the 3rd of May)

Rating: 🫖🫖🫖🫖

This digital arc will be published on the 07th of June 2022. This was for the Persephone prompt: a book with Spring vibes

Crownbreaker by Sebastien de Castell (Hot Key Books)

(Review available on the 6th of May)

Rating: DNF @43%

Sadly, I prefered to DNF this book, even if it’s the last book of the series, as I don’t care for it anymore, and I was, thanks to it, falling into a reading slump, and I didn’t want that. This book was for Titanomachy, where I needed to read a book that is more than 450 pages. As I didn’t finish it, I couldn’t use it for the readathon, so I changed it with Horrorstör for the Orilium readathon.

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Blue Box Press)

Rating: 🫖🫖🫖🫖

I started this book on the 28th of March and finished it at the beginning of the month. It was a book for Artemis, and the prompt was to read a book that had ‘A’ and ‘D’ in the title

READATHONS

Apollo by Carly Spade (Self-published)

Rating: 🫖🫖🫖🫖.5

This book is for the Orilium: Spring Equinox, and it was sad that we can’t double up books, as it has one of my favourite tropes. So instead, I used it for Lore, where I needed to read a mythology-inspired book.

Skyward II: Here There Be Dragonflies by Joe Henderson (Image Comics)

Rating: none

I used this book for the two readathons. In Orilium, it was for Psionics & Divination; the prompt was a book set in the future. In the Magical Hopathon, it was for the attraction Hyperspace Mountain; the prompt was a book that will take you out of this world

Skyward III: Fix the World by Joe Henderson (Image Comics)

Rating: none

This is the last book of the series. I used it for the Magical Hopathon and the character meeting: heroic selfie spot (Marvel), where I needed to read a book with a kick-ass MC.

Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price (HarperTeen)

Rating: 🫖🫖.5

This is the first book in the Jane Austen Murder Mystery, but it wasn’t for me. I used it twice: a) for the Olympus TBR as Poseidon and the prompt author’s name starts with “P”. b) for the Magical Hopathon for the Disneyland Paris’s entrance ticket where I needed to read a book that was calling me

SpyxFamily volume 4 by Tatsuya Endo (Kurokawa)

(Read in French)

Rating: none

This one was first for Hades as there is a dog on the cover. In the story, then it was for the Magical Readathon and the Animation Academy attraction as it’s a manga

Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix (Quirk Books)

Rating: 🫖🫖🫖

I used this book three times a) for Dionysus’s prompt, which was to read a book that matched my outfit, b) in Orilium, I needed to read an intimidating book. Initially, it was the book Crownbreaker for this prompt, but I DNFed it, so I replaced it with this one as it’s a book out of my comfort zone, c) for the Magical Hopathon, it was for the attraction the Tower of Terror where I need to read a book that spooks me out

IN PROGRESS

Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li (Coronet)

Progress: 73%

This book is for the last prompt of the Orilium: Spring Equinox, which is for Art of Illusion and the prompt: a book that has a trope you like. In this book, you have a group of thieves, and it feels like a family found element, which are two tropes I like.

I continue to be in a good vibe, read a lot, and spend a great time doing it. With the weather, I only want to be outside in a garden and read with iced tea. I hope this excellent mood and climate will continue in May as I will challenge myself a little by mainly reading the same genre (to discover which one see my May Olympus TBR.)

And you, which books did you read for this month? Let me know in the comment!
