17th book of 2022
Second book in the Cordelia Hatmaker series
Ever since Cordelia discovered the hidden map in her father’s precious telescope, she’s been searching the streets of London by starlight and trying to uncover its secrets. She’s sure that her missing father is out there somewhere, and that if she follows his map, she’ll finally discover the truth about his disappearance.
She never expects to stumble upon a secret society of Mapmakers – or to learn that magic isn’t limited to the few Maker families, but is instead is all around, if you just know where to look . . .
But danger is lurking around every corner, and Cordelia must convince the rival Maker families to work together for once – not only to bring her father home, but to save the very essence of magic itself . . .

Review
I had a good time following Cordelia Hatmaker in her new adventure throughout London in search of her father.
This book is a direct following of the previous one, not only with the story but also with the characters. They are all present in this book, even for a few sentences. New characters appear, but they aren’t numerous. However, they are essential for the story as they help explain elements that aren’t as described in the first book.
On the story side, you start the book with Cordelia searching for her father with the help of the map, and this quest takes a long time to finish. For the background of the Maker’s story, we had some in the previous book, but in this one, you have so much more that you have an imbalance between the two books. It’s a good thing to have them, but for some, I would have liked to have them in the first one.
This one was a story with a lot of plot twists. I discovered some of them, but not in their entirety, and for some of them, I didn’t see them coming. However, something that doesn’t change is that Cordelia saves the world at the end of the day, but I like the why.
It’s so funny to read this book as Cordelia is looking for her father, following the instructions on a map. She goes through the street of London, and it was a delight to follow her and be able to recognise those streets and their surrounding.
I still have some questions at the end of the book, but my main question is, is it the end of the series, or will we have more books? Because the ending feels like the beginning of new adventures.
Liz.
