Book series & me ep. 9: Hell’s Library by A.J. Hackwith

Hello bookish people,

For this new episode of the Book series & Me, I will talk about Hell’s Library by A.J. Hackwith.

An overview of the series

This series is a trilogy where you follow four main characters, Claire, the librarian of the Library of the Unwritten, Brevity, her assistant who is also a muse; Hero, a character in a story, Rami, who is a fallen angel, and finally Leto a demon that wants to help them. This library is set in the realm of Hell, and nobody can really enter into it as it’s protected by two statues. This series was written by A.J. Hackwith and published by Ace Books for the first time and then by Titan Books.

Book by book

Book 1: The Library of the Unwritten

Summary: The Library of the Unwritten is a neutral space set in Hell where all the unfinished stories are stored. The Head Librarian, Claire, take care of those stories by repairing and organising them. However, she also needs to watch out for the stories to materialise and escape the library.
Unfortunately, a Hero success and escape finding his author. With the help of Brevity, her assistant, and Leto, a demon courier, she goes on to search for Hero. From that, everything goes berserk, especially when they encounter Ramiel, a terrific angel who thought that they have the Devil’s Bible.

Book 2: The Archive of the Forgotten

Summary: After their previous adventure, all is redefined between them. Still, a reckless pond of ink makes it apparition and start to be a problem. Nobody knows anything about it and either how to get rid of it.

Book 3: The God of Lost Words

Summary: I won’t do a summary for this one as there are many spoilers of the first one. Just it’s set right after the second book, and Hell starts to see the consequences of the previous books.

Did I like it and is this series worth it?

My rank for this series is precise, and it goes exactly in the same order as the books. I prefer the first, then the second and lastly the third one.

I was disappointed by this series. I don’t know if there was a need for a sequel. As it’s said on the covers, they are novels, but when you read them, it’s really a series. When you only read the first book, you don’t realise it, but when you read the other two, you really feel it, especially in the third book that has a lot of references from the first book.

For me, it’s not worth it, but when you look at Goodreads or Storygraph, people think the opposite, so I can only recommend for you to read it and make your own opinion. So maybe it’s just a miss for me, but I am happy to have completed this series.

Do I will continue to read A.J. Hackwith’s books?

For now, I will say no, but if I find a book that interests me, I may read it as her writing and construction of the world was the thing that I liked the most in this series.
