my reading summary: January 2022

I’m surprised by this month. Let’s be honest, I was sure to fail this month and only read two or three books and put back on my shelves the other ones. But, when I decided to use the mix media card, I flew through most of the books.

The thing is that I started this month with a book that was beginning to put me on a reading slump, which is never good when it happens at the beginning of the month. So then I alternated between short (and fast) books and longer ones, which helped me a lot. Also, I participated in one readathon: TBRPGathon by Ro from Wandering Through Worlds (her Youtube channel), which motivates me to read one book before the end of week three.

Also, I decided not to waste time reading a book that wasn’t interesting, so I DNFed it and let me tell you, this was the best decision ever. So instead, I read one graphic novel and one manga, which was just self-care.

Let’s start with the stats!

Statistics

In January, I read eight books or 2,368 pages, which means an average of 76 per day. I spent 19 days reading or 34h35 in total, including 13h35 audiobook listening. I didn’t give a lot of ratings, and I DNFed one book, so the average rating for this month is 3.67 out of 5.

The genre that I read the most was fantasy with three books. I mostly read in physical format with four books, but mix media is just behind with three books. The targeted audiences of the books are YA (four books) and Adult (three books.) Lastly, I read six books from an author I had already read, and two was debut author books.

I still don’t have any bonus card.

Here is the book I read during January with their prompts (if there is one). If you want to read a book’s review, you just need to click on the title.

Books

OLYMPUS TBR

The Language of Thorns: Dangerous Tales and Dark Magic by Leigh Bardugo (published by Orion)

Rating: None

This was for Hades, and I needed to read a book with a dark cover. I didn’t give any rating as it’s a collection of short tales.

Queenslayer by Sebastien de Castell (published by Hot Key Books)

Rating: 🫖🫖🫖 – –

It was an Aphrodite card with the prompt to read a book with two or more people on the cover. Here we had Kellen and the queen. Not my most liked of the series.

My Body by Emily Ratajkowski (published by Quercus)

Rating: None

As it’s non-fiction, I didn’t give any rating. This was a Zeus card, and the prompt was to read a book with four stars or more on Goodreads.

These Deadly Games by Diana Urban (published by St. Martin’s Press)

Rating: DNF @50%

I sadly DNF this book; the most frustrating is that it’s an ARC, but well… I read this book while drinking tea, thanks to Hestia. This book will be available on the 01st of February 2022.

Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong (published by McElderry Books)

(review coming February 2nd)

Rating: 🫖🫖🫖🫖 –

This was for Hades, and the prompt was to read fantasy. I really stretched this prompt as I was dying to read this book, and it’s more historical than fantasy, but you have some in it, so yeah… This also means that I finished Theses Violent Delights duology.

OTHER

Le Vieil Homme et son Chat ont la puce à l’oreille by Nekomaki (published by Casterman)

(Read in French)

Rating: None

I couldn’t wait to read this heartwarming book. I love this series!!

SpyxFamily Vol. 3 by Tatsuya Endo (published by Kurokawa)

(read in French)

Rating: None

I wanted to read a book but not a long one, so as I wanted to read this series (and I struggled to find this volume), I read it.

TBRPGathon

The Hatmakers by Tamzin Merchant (published by Puffin)

Rating: 🫖🫖🫖🫖 –

I choose this book for six prompts out of seven. I can’t wait to read the next book that is coming soon.

I still can’t believe that I read that much in January. Finally, for a month that didn’t start well, I found that I finally was successful with my reading.

And you, which books did you read for this month? Let me know in the comment!

Liz.
