Book series & Me ep.7: my collection at the beginning of 2022

Hello book lovers,

In this episode, we will see how my series TBR changes compared to last year. For me, I made significant progress in advancing or finishing some series. However, I bought many new ones, so I may still have a lot of them; different but still a lot. So, let’s go!

My reading habits

Nothing has really changed since last year. I still start a new series when I finish one (or at least I’m trying), and I’m limited to two books from a series in my monthly TBR. I will continue with these rules for this new year and add a new rule, but I’m not sure to follow it: buying fewer first books from series. I want to have this one as I first need to finish or be up to date with some series, and I have a tendency of not restricting myself and buying series, and I have enough of them on my shelves.

Between completed or in progress series, I still prefer a finished series. However, I saw that in 2021, I bought a lot of series that aren’t finished. So I have two behaviour; first, I can’t wait to read it, and I just cross my finger that the next book will be available soon (especially when there is a cliffhanger) and second, it stays on my shelf waiting for me to have the other book or at least be sure that the series is finished.

Series finished in 2021

I’m kinda proud of myself as I finished some series that I started a long time ago. Also, I DNFs some as I don’t have time to lose as other books (series or standalone) were welcome on my shelves.

Finished series

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson: for me, I completed this series as no new books have been announced since the release of the 4th book. I finished this series in July.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan: I was sure to have finished this series in 2020, but it was for my 2021 wrap up post (here) that I realised that I finished it in February.

The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan: I continue my Rick Riordan reads by this series, and I finished it in July.

The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan: I was a little intimidated by this series. Still, I finished my Greek/Roman mythology journey with this one in December.

Ghosted in L.A. by Sina Grace and Sioban Keenan: I read this comic series in three months, even if I knew that I could have read them in one day/month. Finished in August.

The Brown Sisters by Talia Hibbert: This trilogy was so great to read. The big news is that one of the characters and their sisters will also have a trilogy. Can’t wait! I finished this series in April.

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo: I read this series in one week. Yeah, they are more than 500 pages, but it is a universe that I like a lot. Finished in April.

DNFs

Lucky Dog by Julia London: One book was enough for me. Also, I read the synopsis of the second book, and it’s not for me.

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco: I read the first book, and it’s just not for me.

Hawthorne & Horowitz by Anthony Horowitz: I DNFed the second book of the series, so the series is also DNF. The only thing that can change my mind is the third book, as it has my favourite trope.

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket: I finally decided to DNF it as it’s not a pleasure anymore to listen to it. I give up on the ninth book.

Hades & Persephone by Scarlett St. Clair: I liked this first book but not enough to continue, especially since it ends like a standalone. Like I’m happy with what I read, no need for more books.

The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant: I’m DNFing this series as the released date was postponed to 2023 for the second book, instead of 2021, and we don’t have date anymore. As I’m not so into this book, I decide to stop here.

New series in 2021

There are some new ones on my shelves. So I decided to categorise them in two: the first is the books purchased and starting to read, the second is the ones I bought but didn’t start.

Bought and Start

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: I bought the first book, and as I couldn’t wait to read it, I resigned and read it. My mother offered me the second one, but I decided to be more patient and wait to release the third book to start it.

The Inheritance Games (1) – The Hawthorne Legacy (2) – The Final Gambit (3)

Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell: This one is well advanced. I only have two books to read, the biggest of the series. I took a break at the end of last year for this series, but now I’m ready.

Spellslinger (1)Shadowblack (2)Charmcaster (3)Soulbinder (4) – Queenslayer (5) – Crownbreaker (6)

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor: I read the first one, but the two others are intimidating me, but I want to finish in 2022.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (1) – Days of Blood & Starlight (2) – Dreams of Gods & Monsters (3)

Teen Titans One Shots by Kami Garcia: This is a collection of comics following Teen Titans, a cartoon that I watched when I was young. I read the available three and am waiting for 2023 for the fourth one.

Raven (1) Beast Boy (2) Beast Boy Loves Raven (3) – Robin (4)

Fractured Fables by Alix E. Harrow: I bought this book when it was released, and as I was in a mood to read short stories, I read it right away. Unfortunately, there are only two books for now in this series.

A Spindle Splintered (1) – A Mended Mirror (2)

All Our Hidden Gifts by Caoline O’Donoghue: Since its release, I searched for this book but couldn’t find it. So when I saw it, I was so happy that I couldn’t wait to read it. However, when I entered it in my bookshelves sheets, I discovered that it was a series. Yay!!

All Our Hidden Gifts (1) – The Gifts that Bind Us (2) – Untitled (3)

Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe: I waited for enough to read this graphic novel, so I didn’t wait to read it. Now I can’t wait for the next one.

Book 1 – Book 2

Bought and Waiting

Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout: I didn’t want to buy this book as this series is still in progress. I already read one of her series, but for once, I wanted to discover the hype more than waiting for the series to be finished.

From Blood and Ash (1) – A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (2) – The Crown of Guilded Bones (3) – The War of Two Queens (4) – Untitled (5) – Untitled (6)

The Green Bones Saga by Fonda Lee: Another banger of 2021 that I definitely want to read, but they are so intimidating as they aren’t in a genre that I usually read and are enormous.

Jade City (1) – Jade War (2) – Jade Legacy (3)

Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim: I saw this series before its release, even if at that time I thought it was standalone. However, I hesitate to buy it until I discover the beautiful cover from Hodder & Stoughton.

Six Crimson Cranes (1) – The Dragon Promise (2)

Jane Austen Murder Mystery by Tirzah Price: This one is more a cover buy; it rarely happens, but I find that it’s a good concept, and the titles are the best.

Pride & Premeditation (1) – Sense & Second Degree Murder (2) – Manslaughter Park (3)

The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan:I want to wait for a little before reading this trilogy. I will start reading it in April to find the correct edition of the first and last book.

The Red Pyramid (1) – The Throne of Fire (2) – The Serpent’s Shadow (3)

Cassidy Blake by Victoria Schwab: This is the last book I purchased in 2021. I struggle so much to find it, in the bookshop I always go to, I was always seeing the previous book, and that’s all, so I was happy to find it.

City of Ghosts (1) – Tunnel of Bones (2) – Bridge of Souls (3)

Contemporary Mythos by Carly Spade:I saw this series on Instagram once and have wanted to buy it since. I have the first book thanks to a book box. (post here)

Hades (1) – Apollo (2) – Ares (3) – Eros (4) – Poseidon (5) – Zeus (6)

Malice Duology by Heather Walter: I don’t know why I bought this one, but the synopsis looks interesting.

Malice (1) – Misrule (2)

The Wilderwoods by Hannah Whitten: I wanted to read this book in autumn/winter, but I decided to wait for the second book to be released.

For the Wolf (1) – For the Throne (2)

Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao: I have had this book since the beginning of January 2021, and I still didn’t read it. The other two books are available, which means this series is completed.

Blood Heir (1) – Red Tigress (2) – Crimson Red (3)

My Priority for 2022

There will be three graphics to explain how I want to include my series in my TBRs and which ones I will prioritise.

I made good progress in my series in 2021, and I hope it will continue like that in 2022. I hope to tackle more big sequels this year; that’s why I put some on my priority list.

Do you read a lot of series? Did you read any of the series that I mention above? If yes, which one, and what did you think of it? Do you have any recommendations?

See you next time,

Liz.
