Review
How to finish the year 2021 well? Read a book that is a thriller about a fortune, secrets, riddles and heiress from nowhere.
An addictive and fast read, thanks to its short chapters. However, the fact that you have a lot of chapters makes you sometimes feel stagnant from time to time. Also, it takes a lot of time before having the “deadly’ parts in the book, which was a downside for me. As you have everywhere for the reader that fortune will be a synonym of death, I assumed it was a lot more present than that.
The only other element that surprised me was the construction of the heiress. You have a lot of scenes and details about it, and I wasn’t prepared for that. For me, it was only riddles and puzzles, but nope, and it’s logical, I think… Talking about those, I loved those scenes; I was so stressed by it, and every time I wanted to find the answers before Avery. But, let me tell you, I wasn’t good at it.
You have a lot of sub-plot in this story, but they complete the main plot of this fortune. Everything evolves, but you don’t have all the answers at the end, or at least I’m not convinced by all of them. It feels like being one of the characters and that you’re set in the dark by this strange character, Tobias Hawthorne.
A gripping first book about a fortune that bring quests to find answers given by a dead philanthrope. I’m up for the next book as I still don’t have all the answers to my questions.
Liz.
