The Olympus TBR game V.2.0

I started this game a little more than one year ago, and it has changed a lot since then. It’s still based on Greek/Roman mythology, there are still prompts to fulfil, but new year = new shape, new rules for this 2.0 version.

The new board

As you can see in the picture, you have 20 tiles. Fifteen of them are gods/goddesses, and five are specific ones.

Like on the previous board the gods/goddesses are:

  • Zeus (1)
  • Hera (2)
  • Poseidon (3)
  • Hestia (4)
  • Aphrodite (5)
  • Hephaestus (6)
  • Ares (7)
  • Athena (8)
  • Apollo (9)
  • Artemis (10)
  • Hermes (11)
  • Dionysus (12)
  • Demeter (13)
  • Persephone (14)
  • Hades (15)

I make some changes for the specific spaces, but it doesn’t change anything on the way to play the game.

  • Olympus (16): I change this one. Instead of a randomizer I need to choose a book from a very specific list. I have two of them: before my 30s TBR and all the Agatha Christie books.
  • Titanomachy (17): read a big book (≥ 450 pages)
  • Half-God (18): pick a book in my title pot
  • Ambrosia (19): re-roll the dice
  • Monster (20): Read a book that fulfils the prompt on the Monster card. If you win against the monster (by finishing the book), you have a bonus card.

The new rules

I changed most of the rules after November/December as I was in a mood reading mood, so I wanted to give more space to this element. I also wanted to be less stressed about finishing my TBR of the month so that I wouldn’t have any punishment.

  • Rule #1: this TBR game is played with a D20
  • Rule #2: DNF is totally accepted, if it can be replaced you can if not no problem.
  • Rule #3: the number of books can be different each month or stay the same. However, it needs to be realistic. It’s a game to help you and be fun not be a burden.
  • Rule #4: if you don’t read a book of this TBR, you put it back on your shelves and wait for one month minimum before you can reuse it in another TBR. Each book has three lives after it needs to be unhaul (+ add a roll if you want as punishment.)
  • Rule #5: You start a book but don’t finish it at the end of the month: if you read at least 60% you just finish it, if it’s under 60% you need to prioritise it when you play your TBR the next month. (If you already played the game but thought that you could finish it and you didn’t, you need to replace a book of your TBR by the unfinished one.)

I like this new version and can’t wait to use it for my next month TBR, that will be live on the 28th of December.

And you, how do you choose your next book or your monthly TBR? Do you choose them with a TBR game or random? Tell me!

You can use this game for you, but if you want to use it publicly, don’t forget to tell me and link my blog or my insta (@of_books_and_museums)

Liz.
