Reading period: November 01st 2021 – November 20th 2021
Summary
Two sisters.
One brutal murder.
A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself…
And an intoxicating romance.
Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost-even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.
Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

Review
So… it was a strange read. I can’t say that I didn’t like it but neither I can say I liked it. So let’s say that I had a great time? And even that, I’m not sure.
The main problem I had was that it’s a young adult book, and even if the plot is interesting, I would have preferred it to be an adult book or at least a new adult one. Many parts of the book would have been like they should be without restrain due to the age category. I find that it weakens the story and makes it less appreciable.
The other big problem was the pace of the book. Some parts were fast to read, but when it’s only Emilia’s thoughts, it starts to drag a little too much. Sadly, the fastest parts were the action, and they aren’t the most popular thing in the book. So toward the end, I finished by using the audiobook, so I could double up the pace.
The thing between Wrath and Emilia wasn’t the most believable. It starts a little out of nowhere, and those parts weren’t the most appealing to read. This relationship evolves through the book, but it doesn’t become better. I prefered the first part of the relation, the hate, at least it was funny to read. The problem is that this thing takes over the mystery of her sister’s murder, which interested me most.
I didn’t like the main character, Emilia, that much. I saw her evolve through the obstacles she goes through, but it feels more like she plays a character and not really changes (btw, the last sentence of the book makes me laugh.) The problem is that this thing takes over the mystery of her sister’s murder, which interested me most.
Despite everything, I kept going and finished it! It was a struggle, but something in this book will make you read it from beginning to end, even if it’s hard to pick it up.
I will not continue with this series. It wasn’t for me, but I understand why people can like it.
Liz.
