the tyrant’s tomb by Rick Riordan

–th book of 2021

Fourth book in the Trials of Apollo series

Reading period: November 08th 2021 – November 11th 2021

Summary

It’s not easy being Apollo, especially when you’ve been turned into a human and banished from Olympus. On his path to restoring five ancient oracles and reclaiming his godly powers, Apollo (aka Lester Papadopoulos) has faced both triumphs and tragedies. Now his journey takes him to Camp Jupiter in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the Roman demigods are preparing for a desperate last stand against the evil Triumvirate of Roman emperors. Hazel, Reyna, Frank, Tyson, Ella, and many other old friends will need Apollo’s aid to survive the onslaught. Unfortunately, the answer to their salvation lies in the forgotten tomb of a Roman ruler . . . someone even worse than the emperors Apollo has already faced.

Review

This fourth book was a great read as it allows you to breathe before the last battle, which I think will be bloody.

This one deal with a lot with death thanks to the emperors and the tyrant. You are at war, so the Roman camp is preparing for it and dealing with it well. However, I don’t know if it’s because there are a lot of dead or if it’s the power of the people mourning, but I was moved by it and was nearly crying every time. I sobbed for the burial of Jason. I found it well-written; it was like I was living it with the characters.

I was happy to see Ella and Tyson again. Their scenes were funny, and I found the way of rewriting the books original. Of course, you can add the fact that they are doing it in a bookshop. I wanted to be with them and discover it. Also, I found a name for my next cat.

There is one character that I liked a lot in this book: Lavina. She was so interesting as she is the complete opposite of all the Romans. She is funny, skip her turn of duty and love to discover new places and secret entrances. However, one thing is crucial for her: staying true to herself and her values even if it means disobeying the praetor.

I can’t wait to continue and finish the series. One more emperor and Apollo is back. I just hope that nobody will die. I can’t take one more death.

Liz.
