book series & me ep. 5: Ghosted in L.A. by Sina Grace and Siobhan Keenan

Hello bookish people,

Here I am with the fifth episode of the Book Series & Me! This time it’s a comic series: Ghosted in L.A.

An overview of the series

This series was composed initially of 12 volumes in e-book and was published as 3 volumes in physical format in parallel. The team that works on this series is comprised of Sina Grace, the writer, and Siobhan Keenan, the artist. It’s published by Boom! Box.

The three published books regroup 4 separate volumes. So volume 1 includes vol.1 to vol.4, volume 2 from vol.5 to vol.8 and volume 3 from vol.9 to vol.12.

Book by book

In this series, we follow Daphne Walters, who joins her boyfriend at a university in L.A. Following the help of her mother, she chooses to be a medical student. However, she isn’t really welcome there, and after a revelation from her boyfriend, she decides to take a walk. During this walk, she discovers the Rycroft Manor, where a group of ghosts live.

Did I like it and is this series worth it?

I searched for some comics to read, and I came across this one, and overall, I liked it.

First, the drawings. They are details, especially for the focus point in the case, so it helps to guide your eyes to what is essential. I really liked the series’ colour scheme; it helps to know where you are in the timeline. For example, the past is more in sepia, grey, dark green, and the colours are more subdued than when you are in the present, where it’s a lot more colourful. Also, even if it’s evident as they are floating, the ghosts are blue, so you have a difference between the living and the dead.

Now the story, I wanted the series to be longer. I still have a ton of questions not towards the mystery but more about their relationship. I would have like to see more of the characters without necessary a secret, just them. I became attached to the different characters but especially the ghosts. You discover who they are; they aren’t just here for the mystery. They are part of the cast of characters at the same level as the living. In this series, you also have a great deal of diversity, and that’s always a great thing.

I liked this series, and if you aren’t used to reading comics series, it’s a good starting point.

Do I will continue to read their comics series?

Yes, I am not a big reader of comics but if I am searching for a series and one of them is from them (together or not) I will go for it.

Did you read this series? If yes, what your thoughts about it? Are you interest to read it if you didn’t?

I don’t know when the next episode will be live and which series it will be, but for now bye, bye and…

… See you next time,

Liz.
