my reading summary: July 2021

This month was as peaceful as possible. There are many days where I didn’t read as I wasn’t in the mood to do it, especially in the middle of the month as I had my second vaccination, and like the first one, I was exhausted. Then I read two books in two days, and then I stopped to read. Also, the main struggle I had was with The Blood of Olympus; it nearly gave me a punishment. I started it at the beginning of the month, and I was sure to read it in six days, but I finally put it down as I wasn’t interested in reading it.

Statistics

I read a total of 2,472 pages in July, which means an average of 79 per day. It also means that I spent 43 hours of the month reading. As a result, this month’s average rating is 3.58 out of five stars, and exceptionally, I gave 4.5 stars to one of the books.

I still didn’t use my bonus card, so I have two cards for August: change a book and re-roll the dice.

Here is the book I read during July with their prompts (if there is one). If you want to read a book’s review, you just need to click on the (x).

BOOKS

OLYMPUS TBR

(x) The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie (published by Harper Collins)

Rating: 3/5

The book was a half-god draw. I wanted to read a book by Agatha Christie, so it was great. It’s not my favourite story, but it’s always a quick read.

(x) Brandsplaining by Jane Cunningham & Philippa Roberts (published by Pinguin Business)

Rating: None

This one was the Ares card for a book about today’s battle. I wanted to read non-fiction as it’s a long time that I didn’t read one. I bought this book recently, and as I wanted a chill month and it’s only 196 pages, it fits. Also, it talks about sexism in marketing.

(x) The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson (published by Katherine Tengen Books)

Rating: 4/5

It’s one of my most anticipated books that I was dying to read. So I choose it to complete Athena’s prompt: read a book with a hero sidekick.

(x) House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland (published by Putnam)

Rating: 4.5/5

A book out of my comfort zone but a great surprise and one of my favourite this month. This book was for Hermes, and the prompt read a book sets in a different country. The story is set in the United Kingdom, first in London and then in Edinburg.

(x) Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (published by Jo Fletcher Books)

Rating: 3/5

This book was the second half-god draw. It just tempts me to read Mexican Gothic, but I am waiting for October.

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan (published by Puffin)

(Review available on the 6th of August)

Rating: 3/5

I was at the same time happy and stress to fall on Titanomachy, which means that I need to read a book of more than 450 pages. So I choose this book as it’s a 500 page one, but I struggled to read it as I wasn’t in the mood to read it.

OTHER

Charmcaster by Sebastien De Castell (published by Hot Key Books)

(Review available on the 3rd of August)

Rating: 4/5

I didn’t receive the book before the beginning of the month, so I didn’t include it in my TBR. However, I couldn’t wait to read it when I had it, and I bought the next one right away after reading it.

Ghosted in L.A. Volume 2 by Sina Grace and Siobhan Keenan (published by Boom!Box)

(Review available on the 10th of August)

Rating: None

I decided at the last moment to read this book.

I don’t have any specific things to do in August except that I have my birthday and that I’m going on a weekend with one of my friends. So I hope that it will not disrupt anything and that I can read a little that weekend, but otherwise, I can normally read all the books of my TBR, and I hope one more or two.

And you which books did you read for this month? Let me know in the comment!

Liz.
