book series & me ep. 2: The Brown Sisters series by Talia Hibbert

Hello bookish people,

Today it’s a new episode of Book series & Me, and we are going to talk about the Brown Sisters series that I finished in April. Let’s go!

An overview of the series

This series is a trilogy where you follow three sisters, Chloe (the eldest), Dani (the second), and Eve (the youngest). The author of this trilogy is Talia Hibbert, who is an author of smutty romance. In these books, you will find a lot of representations of diversity. It’s not a surprise as the tagline of her website is “Sexy, diverse romance”, and let me tell you, I like it very much! They all have a dual POV, the sister in question and her romantic interest. This series is published by Piatkus.

Book by book

Book 1: Get A Life, Chloe Brown

Trope: enemies to lovers

Diversity: POC, chronical illness, body shape

Summary: Following a near-death moment, Chloe decides to “get a life”, so she decides to create a bucket list to achieve it. Still, not knowing how to do it (always easy said than done), she asks her handyman neighbour, Redford ‘Red’ Morgan, his help in this new adventure. The catch? He resents her, and she spies on him.

Book 2: Take A Hint, Dani Brown

Trope: fake relashionship/friend with benefits

Diversity: POC, sexuality, body shape

Summary: Dani is a professional success girl with some hook-ups, but romance doesn’t have space in her life. However, when she is rescued by the security guard Zafir Ansari (an ex-rugby player), a video of them turn viral. For the benefits of his sports charity for kids, they decide to fake a relationship in public.

Book 3: Get A Life, Eve Brown

Trope: enemies to lovers/ polar opposite

Diversity: POC, diability, body shape

Summary: After an umpteenth give up, her parents decide to draw a line. To prove them wrong, she turns up to an interview for Jacob Wayne’s B&B like a tornado. He is her polar opposite, and for him, she is a big nope. However, he doesn’t have any choice to accept her when she breaks his arm in a car accident.

Did I like it and is this series worth it?

I liked the three of them, but I still have a little rank in my head: 1) Eve 2) Dani 3) Chloe.

To tell the truth, I started to read this series because I liked the cover of the first book, but I saw that the main characters were POC I was so up for it.

I like Chloe’s story as most people don’t know what is it like to live with a chronic illness, I am part of those people, but I discover a lot about it thanks to this book. When you have Red’s past, I found him so interesting and make him a great character even if the book is about Chloe and her romance. However, I didn’t like the trope used in this book. First, I am not a fan of this trope, and second I didn’t feel the “hating” part was justified. Also, I didn’t like the amount of sexual allusion. I think that some of them weren’t necessary, like it doesn’t go with Chloe’s personality.(Full review here)

The second book (Dani) is my favourite as Dani personality and past resonates with mine. Also, her way of thinking was a lot more emancipated. In this book, I wasn’t bothered by the number of sexual allusions as it fits her. It also helps to make the difference between the sisters. I like the relationship between her and Zaf, and again this character was as enjoyable as Dani. However, I found that they have a lot more chemistry, which makes me love a lot more this couple. (Full review here)

For Eve, I like this book a little more than Dani’s one. The thing that I love the most, other than the romance, was the presence of the disability. It takes a lot of space, and I found this important. I also like Eve’s personality, which is the opposite of her love interest and her sisters. I liked that bubbly, purple hair girl, and I didn’t want to finish the book. Her feelings are so communicating. I like that nobody is indifferent toward her, and yeah, I am looking at you, Jacob. Both of them are the cutest couple between the three, and their chemistry is totally different. There is between them something that I can’t explain. (Full review here)

I think that this series is totally worth it. If you want a romance that is smutty, funny and diverse, go for it right now!

Do I will continue to read Talia Hibbert’s books?

This series isn’t the first one that she writes. You have three other series and four standalone. I have one of her standalone, The princess Trap, which is a romance with the fake relationship trope between a Scandinavian prince and a British office worker. For now, it’s the only one that interests me the most, but if I am continuing her books, I will read her standalone first, and then I will read her series.

So yeah, I will surely continue with this author, but it’s not my priority.

Did you read this series? If yes, what your thoughts about it? Are you interest to read it if you didn’t?

This is the end of this second episode of Book series & me! Next Sunday, I will do another episode about a series that I love a lot. Try to guess the series I am going to talk about. Hint: it’s on Netflix.

See you next time,

Liz.
