This mini-series is part of my Sunday Post concept. On Sunday will talk about bookish things that comes to my mind, like genres, tropes, diversity in books, DNFs, book tracking, etc. They will be available on Sunday at least twice per month.
Hello book lovers,
For this first episode of “Book series & Me”, I will talk about my whole collection of series not started yet or in progress and where I am in the process of buying them. I am also going to talk about my reading habits toward those series. So let’s go!
My reading habits
When it comes to series, I am a lot more strict than for standalone, or I want to think I am. I am more a standalone reader; however, I have a significant amount of series. That’s why I create two simple rules:
- I can start a new series when I finished one.
- I don’t exceed two books from series in my TBR of the month.
I am a big fan of completed series and not in progress, especially if the books finished in a cliffhanger. I don’t particularly read the .5 in a series; I concentrate on the main books. Nevertheless, if I really love the world or feel that they are crucial to understand or continue with the series, I read them.
Series in progress
For this category, you have all the series I am up to date and waiting for the next book to be released. Also, all the series which are complete, and which I am currently reading.
I have seven series where I am up to date:
Little Bridge Island by Meg Cabot: it’s an adult romance series that takes place on an island near Florida. Even if the stories follow different characters each time, you will be spoilt if you don’t read them in order. For now, it’s composed of one .5 book and two mains books. However, last month, the author revealed that there will be a third book in September.
No Judgment (1), No Offense (2), No Words (3), Bridal Boot Camp (0.5)
These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong: this duology is a young adult fantasy gang war sets in Shanghai in the ’20s; it’s also a retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I am waiting for the second book, which will be available in November, and I think I am not ready for it.
These Violent Delights (1), Our Violent Ends (2)
A Court of Miracles by Kester Grant: this series is a young adult historical bend story where the French Revolution never existed. It’s announced as a trilogy, but we only have one book that was released last year. Usually, this year we should have the second book, and in 2022, the third one. However, we don’t have any news about it. So I just cross my fingers.
The Court of Miracles (1), Untitled (2), Untitled (3)
Heartstopper by Alice Oseman: this is a webcomic series that is now available as books. It’s about a cute couple Nick and Charlie, and their contemporary life. This series isn’t finished as there are already three books, but there will be two more books soon (this year and next year). I know that I can read the webcomics, but I prefer to wait for this series to be release in book format.
Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3, Volume 4, Volume 5 (2022)
Detective Daniel Hawthorne by Anthony Horowitz: this series follows a detective and his sidekick who is Anthony Horowitz himself. I read the first book last year as I have this book for a long time. However, I never bought the second, and I was waiting for it. Nevertheless, to do this post, I did some research and just found out that there will be a third book in August, and now I cannot find the edition I want in hardcover for the second book.
The Word is Murder (1) – The Sentence is Death (2) – A Line to Kill (3)
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson: this trilogy is a young adult mystery with a dual timeline. I read the whole trilogy, but they announced last year that a fourth book will be available this year. I don’t really know if it’s a standalone or the trilogy will be a four-book series.
Truly Devious (1) – The Vanishing Stair (2) – The Hand on the Wall (3) – The Box in the Wood (4)
Hell’s Library by A.J. Hackwith: this is an adult bookish fantasy trilogy; again, I didn’t know that there will be a third book until I started working on this post. I didn’t feel that it needed new books, but now I am waiting for November to read the next book.
The Library of the Unwritten (1) – The Archive of the Unforgotten (2) – The God of Lost Words (3)

I am proud to have this much series up to date! Now, it’s the turn of the series in progress, but I know they are finished. There are four of them:
Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab: this trilogy is the first series of this author that I am reading. It’s a new adult fantasy one; I read the first book last year, in paperback. Then I bought the collector edition box, and now I have the whole series. I am happy as the books are stunning. However, I wasn’t prepared to have two chunky books as the first book is thin. Am I afraid to read them as they are big? Yeah, totally!
A Darker Shade of Magic (1) – A Gathering of Shadow (2) – A Conjuring of Light (3)
Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell: this is a fantasy young adult six books series. Long story short, I hesitated a lot before buying this book as it’s a big series. You have six main books and five .5 books which is a lot. For now, I only read the first book, and I will continue to read it every two months.
Spellslinger (1) – Shadowblack (2) – Charmcaster (3) – Soulbinder (4) – Queenslayer (5) – Crownbreaker (6)
The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan: this series is part two of a whole verse based on mythologies (Greek/Roman, Egyptian, Norse.) I read Percy Jackson three time and the first book of Magnus Chase. However, last year, I decided to re-read Percy Jackson and continue with the whole verse. I usually will finish the entire verse in June 2022 if I continue to read a book each month. I am now at the third book of this series.
The Lost Hero (1) – The Son of Neptune (2) – The Mark of Athena (3) – The House of Hades (4) – The Blood of Olympus (5)
A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket: this is a middle grade thirteen books series that follow three orphans and their “uncle” Comte Olaf. For this series, I am listening to audiobooks. I am at the seventh book, and I will go back to it maybe this year.
The Bad Beginning (1) – The Reptile Room (2) – The Wide Window (3) – The Miserable Mill (4) – The Austere Academy (5) – The Ersatz Elevator (6) – The Vile Village (7) – The Hostile Hospital (8) – The Carnivorous Carnival (9) – The Slippery Slope (10) – The Grim Grotto (11) The Penultimate Peril (12) – The End (13)

Series not started yet
Now I will talk about all the series that I physically have (complete or not) but that I didn’t start yet. Six series are in that state:
The Ravens by Kass Morgan and Danielle Page: I have the first book that I bought at the end of last year. It has these Halloween vibes, so I am waiting to be in October to read it. Also, because the second book will be available in 2022.
The Ravens (1) – The Monarch (2)
Susan Ryeland by Anthony Horowitz: it’s the second series of this author that I have, but contrary to the other one, I didn’t start this one. However, I have all the books available. One of them has beautiful blue sprayed edges with the cycle of the moon draw on it.
Magpie Murders (1) – Moonflower Murders (2)
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor: I heard about this trilogy last year and found the neon edition so beautiful, but I had two choices: buy one by one the books or buy the box with all the books but pay less. Which one did I choose? The box. Yeah, I bought an entire trilogy without even reading the first book, so I don’t know if I like it or not.
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (1) – Days of Blood & Starlight (2) – Dreams of Gods & Monsters (3)
Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao: I just found the cover stunning, and the fact that the trilogy is set in Russia around the Tsar period was a big plus. For now, there are the first two books available, and I only have the first one. I want to finish this book before buying the second one.
Blood Heir (1) – Red Tigress (2) – Untitled (3)
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: I only have the first book of this four-book series; I have it since 2017. I wasn’t interested anymore in it, so I put it in my garage. However, I am more interested in it, so maybe I will start it this year.
The Raven Boys (1) – The Dream Thieves (2) – Blue lily, Lily Blue (3) – The Raven King (4)
The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty: to be honest, I started this book (1 chapter) last year, but I stopped as I felt that it was a lot more high fantasy and I am not used to it at all. I will continue to read it as I liked what I read, but I now know that it will take me more time to read than another fantasy.
The City of Brass (1) – The Kingdom of Copper (2) – The Empire of Gold (3)

Series that I don’t see as series
There are only three for this category, but this one is about the series that have the same characters, but the story doesn’t follow the previous book of the series. Also, the ones which doesn’t have a specific order to understand the plot. They are like novels in a series.
One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus: I read back in 2017 the first book and discover last year that there is a second book. However, I didn’t see its point as the end of the first book is well-done. I don’t know if I will read it but maybe one day.
One of Us Is Lying (1) – One of Us Is Next (2)
Royals by Rachel Hawkins: I read the second book of this series, but I didn’t mind that I didn’t read the first book. I understood everything. After I don’t know if I will read the first book as I am not really interested in it.
Prince Charming (1) – Her Royal Highness (2)
Killing November by Adriana Mather: I put this book here as I didn’t feel the need for the second book, even if the end suggests a sequel. I don’t know if I will read the second book, and even if I am going to read it, it’s not my priority.
Killing November (1) – Hunting November (2)

So, this is my list of the series available on my shelves. I didn’t realise that I have that much series. I know that some people have a lot more series than I have, but still, I am surprised.
For this mini-series, I will talk in detail about series or verse that I have finished or up to date, like a summary of my thoughts. I cannot wait to share that with you!
Do you read a lot of series? Did you read any of the series that I mention above? If yes, which one, and what did you think of it? Do you have any recommendations?
See you next time,
Liz.
