Summary

Face your demons… or feed them.

The dashing young king, Nikolai Lantsov, has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war–and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, Nikolai must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.

Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha general, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried–and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.

Review

I couldn’t wait to read this book, so I read it right away after King of Scars, and I had a great time reading it.

Sadly like the previous one, I struggle with Nina’s parts even if I like how everything takes place. I also enjoyed that Hanne is more present in those parts, and we discover her through the eyes of Nina. I would have like to have her POV for at least one chapter; I wished it until the end, even now, and I finished the book. However, the end of Nina’s side of the story is stunning; I didn’t see it coming at all.

Now it’s the most complicated part of the review, as I don’t want to spoil, but a lot is happening in the Ravka side of the story. They are so important, but they spoil if told. I wasn’t prepared for most of the events that are occurring with Zoya and Nikolaï. I cry, dance in my room, laugh, and scream while reading this book. It makes you feel different feelings at the same time.

I didn’t want to finish this book, but I was dying to know the end at the same time. Now I have a book hangover; I don’t want to leave the Grishaverse.

As a lot to talk about, I am doing a review with spoilers. I will be available in the following days.

Liz.

Gorgeous review!! I love the way you phrased everything about the world, and whilst I totally agree that rule of wolves would have been a worthy ending to the grisha verse, I’m so glad it isn’t. That last line!! I think there was a few too many POV (why so many mayu in a book that isn’t even about her??) but I was living for all the cameos. Here’s my review 🙂 https://hundredsandthousandsofbooks.blog/2021/04/11/the-end-of-the-grishaverse-rule-of-wolves-review/
