15th book of 2021
Reading period: Feb 14th 2021 – Feb 15th 2021
Summary
All too often the focus of mainstream feminism is not on basic survival for the many, but on increasing privilege for the few.
Meeting basic needs is a feminist issue. Food insecurity, the living wage and access to education are feminist issues. The fight against racism, ableism and transmisogyny are all feminist issues.
White feminists often fail to see how race, class, sexual orientation and disability intersect with gender. How can feminists stand in solidarity as a movement when there is a distinct likelihood that some women are oppressing others?
Insightful, incendiary and ultimately hopeful, Hood Feminism is both an irrefutable indictment of a movement in flux and also clear-eyed assessment of how to save it.

Review
I had mixed feelings toward this book.
I will start with the thing that I like. The main thing is that this book shows another part of feminism and that everyone doesn’t feel represented in the mediatized one.
I think it’s an essential read to have to understand the whole movement, which is feminism. The more diverse the POVs are, the less you will be counterproductive.
However, the great struggle was for me the repetitiveness of some elements, making the book a little unorganized. This feeling was increased by the fact that I was listening to the audiobook while reading. Also, I found that it wasn’t balanced throughout the whole track.
It’s a book that I recommend to read if you are interested in this topic and want to learn more. I will maybe do another read in the future and this time only in physical.
Liz.
