For this first month of the year, I read a total of 10 books and complete all the prompts from my TBR game.
I realised that I only read fictions this month, but from different genres:
- 4 fantasy
- 2 contemporary
- 1 romance
- 1 adventure
- 1 historical
- 1 humour
The average of rating I gave for January is 3.7 out of 5 stars. This average rating is divide as follow:
- 1 ★★★★★
- 6 ★★★★
- 2 ★★★
- 1 ★★
- 0 ★
- 0 DNF
As I read all my books, I will have the chance to pick up a bonus card as one of the books was a Monster card.
Here is the book I read during January with their prompts (if there is one). If you want to read a book’s review, you just need to click on the (x).
(x) Blackbird by Sam Humphries and Jen Bartel (published by Image Comics)
Rating: 4/5
The card was the cyclopean wall-builders card (a monster), so the prompt was going to Athena and draw a card. The prompt on Athena’s card was a book with a wind element.
(x) Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo (published by Hachette Children’s Book)
Rating: 2/5
For this, it was a Hades’ card, and the prompt was a book set in another world.
(x) There is No Such Thing as an Easy Job by Kikuko Tsumura (published by Bloomsbury)
Rating: 4/5
I had the chance to fall on an Olympus spot, so I randomised the gods and fell on Zeus. The prompt from Zeus’ card is a book from an author you never read.
Roger et ses Humains Tome 3 by Cyprien Iov and PAKA (published by Dupuis)
Rating: 4/5
This book is a French comic, and this is the last book of the series. I will not do any review for this book or series, and it wasn’t in the book for my TBR game.
(x) The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles (published by John Murray Press)
Rating: 4/5
This book wasn’t part of my TBR book, but it’s a book that I received as a digital advance copy and as the release date (Feb 09th 2021) was approaching I wanted to read it.
(x) The Archive of the Forgotten by A.J. Hackwith (published by Ace Books)
Rating: 3/5
This card was also a Hades’ ones. This time the prompt was a fantasy.
(x) The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary (published by Quercus)
Rating: 4/5
This was my first draw as I fall on half-god. The hazard chooses this book for me, and it has good taste!
(x) The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune (published by Tor Books)
Rating: 5/5
This beautiful book was a Poseidon’s card (and my favourite one) a book set on the sea or seashore. Am I the only one to make a mistake and say “on” instead of “in” when I say/write the title?
(x) The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan (published by Puffin Book)
Rating: 4/5
This card makes me laugh as it’s a Poseidon one and (for people who don’t know) Percy Jackson is his son in the series. The prompt was to read an adventure.
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett (published by Riverhead Books)
Review available on Feb 2nd 2021
Rating: 3/5
This last one is the second draw as I fall on a half-god case. I wasn’t thrilled by it.
And you which books did you read for this first month of the year?
Liz.
