the magical readathon

This year, I decided to do my first readathon ever. After spending some times watching booktubers, I came across this magical readathon, and I was thrilled to do it.

Book Roast created this readathon in 2018; it is based on my favourite book series: Harry Potter. The readathon takes place for two months: April and August. The April part is based on the O.W.L.s exams, and the August one is for the N.E.W.T.s test.

In this post, I am going to focus on the O.W.L.s part as tomorrow is the 1st of April.

For the O.W.L.s part of the readathon, you choose a future career in the wizarding world that will define the number of subjects that you should take to validate them. You have to create a T.B.R. of the books that correspond to the assignment to confirm the topic.

I choose the career path of a librarian. I know that it’s not the most magical, but I was drawn to it. To achieve my aim, I need to take five subjects: Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Defence Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic and Transfiguration. If I have finished those readings, I will continue and try to do the seven other subjects. For my T.B.R., as I am a moody reader, I don’t have a strict one.

Here the assignments and an idea of my T.B.R. for the five subjects:

Ancient Runes

Heart rune: heart on the cover or in the title.

  • Killing November by Adriana Mather
  • The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by McKilling
  • Suicide Club by Rachel Heng

Arithmancy

Read something outside your favourite genre.

  • Suicide Club by Rachel Heng
  • Mrs. Dolloway, Virginia Woolf
  • Little Women by Louisa May Scott
  • Vox by Christina Dalcher

Defence Against the Dark Arts

Book set at the sea/coast.

  • Murder at the Brightwell by Ashley Weaver
  • Death of a Gossip by M.C. Beaton
  • The Otters’ Tale, Simon Cooper

History of Magic

Book featuring witches/wizards.

  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

Transfiguration

Book/series that includes shapeshifting.

  • Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

I already did my reading journal for April.

I will make a post each week to update you on my progression in this challenge.

Liz.
